Who should read Engineering Leadership Bridging the Gap?: Engineers who want to lead, managers who need to grow technical leaders, and executives who need a pipeline. It is written for people who already respect craft and want a second one.
Is this for individual contributors, or only managers?: Both. Several chapters are explicitly for ICs who lead through influence, architecture, and staff-level impact. Management is one path across the gap, not the only one.
Is this appropriate for engineering managers?: Yes. Managers live in the gap. The book, the mentoring workbook, and the discussion guide are designed to be used in 1:1s and team academies.
How long is the book?: Eleven chapters on engineering leadership, communication, mentoring and coaching, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, teamwork, team building and conflict, delegation, time management, and project management. 129 pages, published August 22, 2023. ISBN 979-8-8585-7469-9.
What does ELBTG stand for?: Elevate, Learn, Build, Transform, Grow. In the book that means: elevate engineers through soft-skills training; learn technical and leadership skills together; build leaders through mentorship; transform the team into a team of leaders; grow the organization by empowering engineers to lead. The same letters also name the mentoring loop in Chapter 3.

Is there a corporate edition?: The same edition is used by individuals and companies. What changes is the wrapper: discussion guides, workshops, assessments, and bulk fulfillment. Ask us about a cohort package.

Is there a discussion guide?: Yes — eleven sessions, one per chapter, for teams, book clubs, and academies lives under Resources. It is free to use with purchased copies of the book.
